Frequently Asked Questions?

Find quick answers to the most common questions about our speech therapy fees, appointment types and policies.

How much does speech therapy cost?

Speech therapy ranges from $150 to $215 per session, depending on whether it’s an initial consultation, a long session or a short session. All sessions include written notes and strategies to support your communication goals.

What is included in the initial consultation?

The initial consultation includes information gathering, a play-based or formal assessment (depending on your needs), starting therapy activities and written notes provided to you.

How does The Speech House work?

Your journey starts with an initial assessment by a Speech Pathologist, who designs your child’s program and goals.
An Allied Health Assistant (AHA) then provides weekly or fortnightly sessions as recommended following the program, while the Speech Pathologist supervises, reviews progress, and updates goals as needed.  This team-based approach ensures continuity, expert guidance, and measurable progress.

How often should I attend speech therapy?

Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly, depending on their goals, communication needs and rate of progress. Your speech pathologist will recommend what suits you best.

Are Allied Health Assistant (AHA) sessions the same as seeing a Speech Pathologist?

AHA sessions follow the goals and therapy plan created by your Speech Pathologist. They provide additional therapy time at a lower cost, allowing you to practise and consolidate skills between your main sessions.

Do I need a referral to begin speech therapy?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with us.

Are resources included in the fee?

Most home practice resources are included at no cost. Custom materials or communication boards may incur a small fee at the pro-rata rate.

Do you charge for reports or letters?

Yes. Reports, letters and non face-to-face tasks are billed pro rata at $193.99 per hour. Please allow 6–8 weeks for completion.

What is your cancellation policy?

Changes made with more than 24 hours notice incur no charge.
Late notice and missed appointments are billed at the full session fee. A courtesy text is sent the day before to help you avoid these charges.

Can speech therapy fees be covered by NDIS?

Yes, clients with self-managed or plan-managed NDIS plans can use funding for speech therapy and AHA sessions.  If attending in person is tricky you might prefer our online speech therapy available Australia wide.

What are your payment terms for private, NDIS self-managed and plan-managed clients?

Payment is expected on the day of your appointment.

  • Private and self-managed NDIS clients: invoices are due on the day.

  • Plan-managed NDIS clients: invoices are sent to plan managers on the day. If your plan runs out of funds or a plan manager doesn’t pay an invoice, the outstanding amount becomes the family’s responsibility.

Clear payment processes help us reserve your regular therapy time, pay our team promptly, and provide consistent support.
